Public installation in downtown Oakland, CA: brass bells, electronics
Dimensions variable

Production assistance : Daniel McAnulty and Joseph Rosenzweig

Occasional Music (2013) was a five month long public installation in Oakland, CA. The work consists of brass bells that simultaneously ring from rooftops radiating out from Oscar Grant Plaza near 14th Street and Broadway in downtown Oakland. Activated for several minutes once a day at a randomly predetermined time, each bell plays a unique but strictly coordinated series of accelerandos and ritardandos, in effect sounding a chorus of bells distinct to each day of its installation.
